The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
