Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A circulating conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's biological sex.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens ignored any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
